Day #7: Thinking of You Week
Final Prompt: Write to your doctor or health care provider to encourage them
For almost 30 years, my husband was an Internal Medicine specialist and a primary care provider in our rural Shenandoah Valley. No one but me will ever know how devoted he was to his patients or how often he agonized over them or pulled textbooks out to re-read about their diseases to make sure he hadn’t missed anything. Until he retired, he received very few personal notes of appreciation, even after the many times when he had stayed up all night or saved a life. When he did get a personal note, he cherished it.
If you’ve ever had a lingering or chronic medical problem, you may have been helped by dozens of healthcare workers: receptionists, nurses, assistants, aides, and technicians. It’s hard to be grateful when you’re not feeling well, but if you think about it, I bet you’ll remember most of them treated you with warmth, kindness, and compassion.
And guess what…they all wear nametags!
Write to them at the hospital or office where your care was received — they’ll get it, and it will mean more than you can possibly imagine.
If someone else entirely comes to mind, write to them and forget today’s prompt. I’d love to hear who you decided to write to and why! I’ll be posting my own daily activities in my Substack NOTES and my Facebook group, “The Art of the Heartspoken Note.”

It’s a wrap!
We’ve come to the end of Thinking of You Week, and I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have. Even if you didn’t participate every day, perhaps you’ve thought of notes you can write in the weeks ahead. Find your own pace and writing habits. I don’t write a note every day, but at least twice a week, I’ll sit down and write one or more.
The Heartspoken Movement in action!
You and I—in our own little corner of the universe—are changing the world by spreading a fire of love and kindness…one note at a time. And never forget our mantra:
Whether written or spoken, words from the heart will never fail you!
In case you missed it
