Overwhelmed by Wedding Thank-You Notes? You're Not Alone.
Realistic alternatives and thoughtful workarounds for modern couples

Weddings Lead to Thank-You Notes
As recently as the mid-20th century, June was the most popular month for weddings, likely because it was named for Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and childbirth. Many cultures believed marrying in June brought blessings to the union.
Today, October and September are more popular for weddings than June, but by July, thousands of newlyweds are still feeling the pressure of unfinished thank-you notes.
What’s the etiquette on timing?
The Emily Post Institute, my go-to source for modern etiquette, says wedding thank-you notes should be sent within three months of receiving the gift. That’s a much tighter window than the often-misquoted “one-year rule.” And it can be a challenge, especially if the gifts piled up before or after the wedding and you’re only now catching your breath.
Feeling overwhelmed?
You're not alone. I’ve written a post with practical strategies to help you through:
“Overwhelmed by Wedding Thank-You Notes?”
Here are a few quick takeaways from that article:
Batch your writing: Commit to writing just 3–5 notes a day.
Use a template to get started, then personalize each one.
Keep a shared gift log with your spouse to track who gave what.
These small steps can help you regain momentum and write with sincerity without burnout.
What if you’re still stuck?
I hope you won’t need this, but there are note-writing services that can help. They range from fully personalized handwriting services to hybrid options that combine automation with a human touch. I list several in my book (HEARTSPOKEN, Appendix D), and I’ve posted an updated list in my Heartspoken Resource Library for members. If you’d like a copy of that list, just send me a direct message.
Coming up next…
I’m honored to feature Laurence Baudot, a French graphologist and genealogist, in next week’s post. She’ll be sharing how handwriting supports children’s learning and development. Don’t miss it!
