An excellent companion to my Heartspoken book
I’m shining a spotlight today on an outstanding guidebook I pulled from my own note-writing bookshelf: On a personal note: A GUIDE TO WRITING NOTES WITH STYLE by Angela Ensminger and Keely Chace for Hallmark. Please read my review using the button below. If you order from one of my links, you’ll support my writing without paying a penny more.

March calendar for note and letter writers
How to use the monthly calendar
Karen Sanderson and I try to highlight any obvious epistolary holidays or celebrations. The rest are just for fun and to give you fresh ideas to write about in your correspondence. The calendar can be especially helpful if you correspond with pen pals and want to throw in a random cultural or oddball tidbit. We welcome ideas to add to these calendars, especially if it relates to any aspect of note or letter writing (pens, inks, papers, postage, mail, etc.).
I print my calendar out and leave it on my writing desk to use as a prompt for touching bases with someone to whom I might have missed sending a holiday card in December. Thankfully, most people are like me…they love to hear from their friends any time of year and get an update on their well-being.
A heartspoken note is a hug by mail.
If you’re a business professional:
Don’t bore your clients, prospects, and business associates with cards they get from everyone else. Break away from holiday and birthday cards and send them something unexpected…something that shows you’ve paid attention to them and are genuinely interested in them. I’ve written about this often in my LinkedIn newsletter, but don’t miss “Unexpected Notes That Will Make Them Smile (and make you stand out from rest).”
Great reasons to write a note or letter
I’ve been posting a series of YouTube “shorts” in my Substack Notes about great reasons to write a heartspoken note or letter. Check them out:
Reason #1: It strengthens the connections in our life that matter
Reason #2: It makes you a better writer.
Reason #3: It makes your note recipients happy.
You can find these and other of my NOTES here. I’ll be posting five more of these over the next week or so.
Coming up…
Next week I’ll finish the third in my three-part series: “Professional Notes for the 21st Century: A Guide to Modern Etiquette.”
Heartspoken Circle and Ambassador-level members will soon get their March Action Plan. The theme will be The Art of Gratitude—Thank-You Notes That Stick. It will include templates, examples, and an easy weekly map for taking action.
I’ll also be adding the Video shorts and recommended reading to your Ambassador Library. Upgrade now to get all the action plans, resources, and discounts.
Have a great week, and always remember: whether written or spoken,
words from the heart will never fail you!
Thanks for the book recommendation. I just ordered it from Amazon via your link!
Love the idea of using the calendar list as a writing prompt. I'll be using that. Thanks!
