November 2024 Calendar for Note and Letter Writers
And some important dates that are not on the calendar...
If you’d prefer to listen instead of read this post:
Pens, pens, pens…
November 1 is Fountain Pen Day, and while not everyone enjoys writing with a fountain pen, I’ve learned there’s an entire subculture of wonderful folks who are unapologetic fanatics. I’d love to know if you’re among them and, if so, how fanatical are you? :-) Please leave a comment or reply to this email (for true, private confessions).
What’s your favorite pen? For some, that’s like asking them to name their favorite child, but I’ll tell you outright that my favorite fountain pen is still the first one my husband gave me when he realized I was serious about my writing: a Waterman Charleston. I also adore my Pelikan M205 for its reliability and resistance to drying out. Here’s a post that pictures and describes all the fountain pens on my writing desk:
And for National Authors Day, I’d suggest…
It’s November 1, but you can do these things any time:
Write to your favorite author and tell them why you love their work. If you can’t find their snail mail address, write a heartspoken note on the Contact Page of their website. If you really want to make an impression, write a review for one of their books.
Find an epistolary novel from among these fabulous choices posted on my blog: “My Favorite Epistolary Literature.”
Check out a book of letters by a famous person. Their letters will give you fascinating and intimate insight into their work and art. Here are two to consider:
Letters from a Stoic by Lucius Annaeus Seneca, a Roman philosopher and statesman. Written in the first century AD. These letters provide timeless advice on life, resilience, and virtue and have influenced readers for centuries.
The Letters of Vincent van Gogh, offers a deeply personal view into the artist's mind, his struggles, and his creative process, particularly in letters to his brother, Theo.
Holiday Shipping Deadlines
The time is upon us! If you live in the United States and have overseas or deployed military personnel to whom you wish to send packages, the earliest deadlines are coming up soon (Nov. 4 for Ground Advantage Service). Here’s the scoop, straight from the U.S. Postal Service. If you live in Canada, here are some guidelines from Canada Post. Anywhere else, check your country’s postal website.
Don’t forget to vote!
Election day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024. In many states you can avoid the crowd by voting early. Please exercise this precious privilege.
Don’t miss the Halloween Night discount deadline!
The discounted price is almost over to get my first-ever Heartspoken course “Say Thank You With Flair: Elevate Your Thank You Notes with Rhymes and Haiku.” Get your special introductory 44% discount using check-out code FLAIRINTRO until the end of the October — Halloween night at midnight. I’m pricing this to make it a no-brainer purchase and get it in as many hands as possible. With the Heartspoken Movement, we’re reviving the art of the heartspoken note, and what better way than to make our most frequently written note—the thank-you note—more fun and easy?
Have a great week and always remember: whether written or spoken, words from the heart will never fail you!
What an interesting educational consumer experience for fountain pens! It’s been years and years since I’ve owned one and 40 years ago, I remember the smooth flow of writing with a fountain pen, but always having an ink stain on my finger! I’m sure it was user error, because it worked perfectly until I had to replace the ink cartridge.
Thank you @elizabethhcottrell for this fountain pen review and for the November celebration writing prompts, along with the USPS deadlines for holiday shipping. Somehow the holidays sneak up on me and I find myself racing to the post office before the deadline!
