July 2024 Calendar for Note and Letter Writers
There's always a reason to write a note or letter!
What a month!
There are lots of occasions this month that uniquely lend themselves to writing a note or letter. On July 1, when we celebrate National Postal Worker’s Day (as well as U.S. Postage Stamp Day and Zip Code Day), why not slip your mail carrier a note of appreciation? And later in the month, you’ll see days that remind us to cheer up the lonely and to let our cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends know how much we love and appreciate them.
Use this calendar to inspire you with words and ideas for your notes and letters. I print out a copy each month to keep at my writing desk. Download and print the calendar from here.
Happy Anniversary to the Heartspoken Movement!
I can’t believe July 15, 2024 marks the second anniversary of the publication of Heartspoken: How to Write Notes that Connect, Comfort, Encourage, and Inspire and the beginning of the #HeartspokenMovement. I’ve been deeply moved by feedback from readers who have been inspired to use their note-writing superpower to touch the lives of others and spread a little love and kindness, one person at a time. And there is often a ripple effect as those note recipients start picking up their pens too.
“One of the most valuable books you’ll ever own and will refer to over and over for years to come.” Lydia Ramsey, Business Etiquette and Modern Manners Expert
“Heartspoken is a work of art—and a work of heart…her words are packed with wisdom and inspiration.” Peggy Post, Director Emeritus, The Emily Post Institute
“Her easy-to-remember NOTES formula inspires letter writers to express compassion and caring.” Ann Davison, Executive Coach and Strategic Communications Advisor
I’ve also been delighted with the positive response from the corporate world as sales and nonprofit professionals have devoured the book, realizing that writing heartspoken notes can set them apart when it comes to building and nourishing important relationships and being successful in their business. I’ve been invited to speak in many workplaces and on several podcasts. I’ve also done workshops for those who want to be more effective note writers.

A touch of inspiration…
“I am frequently asked about the relevance of letter writing in our modern era. Many wonder if it's an art form past its prime or worth rejuvenating. While it's true that letters have historically been vehicles for conveying information, their essence encapsulates so much more. The practice of penning down thoughts, sealing them with wax, mandates a deliberate pause in our fast-paced lives, inviting us to savor the tactile joy of creating beauty firsthand.“
Kay Collier, a.k.a. Kathryn Hastings

Coming up…letters to those who have gone
Next week, I’ll share a video in which Jenna Bush Hager reads the lovely letter she wrote to her grandfather, President George H. W. Bush, on his 100th birthday — eight years after his death. And we’ll consider how writing a letter to someone who has gone might be meaningful and therapeutic.
